If essays were honest

This time of year I see parents visiting this site, checking out EnVos Living because of our local men’s lacrosse High School scholarship offer. EnVos Living hopes to provide real-life tips to help deal with various life topics. Most of my blogs these past few years have centered around change, mostly related to school and the challenges of growing up – the next step. The EnVos Living scholarship is offered to a graduating senior moving to the “next step” in their education. Students are asked to write a short essay related to their lacrosse experience in relation to learning, mentorship, leadership or growth.
This year I had the opportunity to proofread my son’s essays for graduate school. He talked about his WHY. He reviewed his academic achievements. Highlighted his leadership positions in various clubs and organizations. He road mapped his future goals and aspirations. He was well-written, articulate and convincing. But...as I read his essay, I couldn’t help but think how essays would read if the kids of today were able to write honest responses. I hope the humor does not hit too close to home. Enjoy!!!
Dear Person deciding my future,
I am writing today, 48 hours before applications are due because I have procrastinated. Not because I don’t care, but because I have no sense of time or urgency. My Gen X Mom wanted me to complete this 3 months ago when the application opened. Honestly, I would 100% complete this tomorrow if she wasn’t helicoptering me about it. Dad says it’s ok though. Since your school communication is mostly e-mail, it took me a few weeks to realize the application deadline was close. Thank you for making it mobile friendly btw. Your school is my highkey choice. The tour was stellar, the location bomb (far enough away from home) and my girlfriend is planning to go there too. Dub. I plan on joining many clubs and definitely putting myself out there. Already posting on IG and Snap how dope campus is. I have a decent GPA and SAT score (I might take it again if I need to, but I think it is high enough). In closing, thanks for considering me. I look forward to hearing from you quickly. And, if you could provide me with a scholarship that would be Gucci.
